Ayu-Must-Go crisis: “Were still open to reconciliation” G5 Govs., others

Forms Integrity Group

Five governors, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and some aggrieved party leaders have stated that they are still open to reconciliation within the party.

The G5 governors and some party leaders, who stated this in an issued communique after its strategic meeting in Lagos, also announced the formation of a group to be known as the ‘Integrity Group’.

Recall that the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been at daggers-drawn over the calls for the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu on the grounds that there is the need for the South to produce the candidate for that position.

Addressing newsmen after its closed-door meeting, former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, said it has not closed its door on reconciling with Atiku.

Reading the communique, Jang said: We have reviewed the issues in our party and we, therefore, stand on the position we took at our last meeting in Port-Harcourt and we hereby reiterate our position that the window for reconciliation in our great party, the PDP, remains open.

Earlier, Governor Seyi Makinde, of Oyo State, had announced the formation of the Integrity Group, saying it is the face behind the struggle within the PDP.

Those present at the meeting include Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike; Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, of Enugu State, and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, of Abia State.

Others at the meeting are former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, and former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George.

Also present were former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Bello Adoke; PDP Deputy National Chairman, Taoferk Arapaja, amongst others.
